Virginia Tech’s Peter Dye’s River Course voted the 6th Best College course in the Country
Golf Digest has recently released its ranking of the 25 greatest college golf courses in the United States, with the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech securing the impressive 6th spot.
Yale Golf Course in New Haven, Connecticut, earned the top spot in this year's ranking, followed by Taconic Golf Club at Williams College and the University of Michigan Golf Course. Within the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), six courses made the list, with the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech leading the ACC contingent at the sixth position.
The Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech, dedicated in 2006, offers golfers a challenging yet serene experience amid the beautiful western Virginia mountains. This course has a rich history, having hosted the 2011 NCAA Regional Golf Tournament and receiving an impressive 4.5-star rating in Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play" poll in 2011.
With five sets of tees and a picturesque 2.5-mile stretch along the historic New River, the course caters to golfers of various skill levels, making it a sought-after destination. Additionally, it was recognized by Golf Digest as one of the nation's top new remodel golf courses, emphasizing its remarkable quality and appeal.
The magazine's first-ever ranking of America's top college golf courses dates back to 1982 when it featured only five courses based on a poll given to collegiate golf coaches. The latest 2023 ranking, however, relies on Best-in-State data and input from a course-ranking panel. Remarkably, four out of the five original courses from 1982's list continue to hold their place among the nation's best.
