3 Iconic Golf Courses in the DMV getting a major upgrade
Three iconic D.C. golf courses in the DMV are going to receive a major makeover: East Potomac Park, Langston and Rock Creek Park.
Big news in the DMV golf world! Three iconic D.C. golf courses in the DMV are going to receive a major makeover. Those courses are East Potomac Park, Langston and Rock Creek Park.
The National Links Trust and Troon were hired by the National Parks Service to rehab and operate the three courses. Here’s their long term plan if you want to know more.
Golf Course architects Tom Doak, Gil Hanse and Beau Welling will provide design services for renovation work on the courses. These guys are super impressive. Read more about them here.
These courses have a lot of history which is worth knowing if you play in the area.
East Potomac Park opened its doors back in 1921 only for white golfers but was de-segregated in 1955. Langston Golf Course was opened in 1939 for African-American golfers in the area. And Rock Creek Park golf course? It's been around since 1909! These courses are like time machines, folks.
"These courses are more than just golf spots," says Michael McCartin, one of NLT's founders. They're cultural gems with a history of making golf accessible to all. The NLT wants to celebrate their past and open up golf to underserved communities, including seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and golf newbies. 🙌⛳
We’ll keep you updated with more developments over the coming few months.
