5 Juneteenth Events this weekend

Vienna, Fairfax, Bull Run & more

Fairfax County is gearing up for a weekend filled with joy and celebration as various events are planned to commemorate Juneteenth, taking place from June 17 to June 19.

Just recently, on June 6, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors officially recognized June 19 of this year as Juneteenth. This holiday, which has gained recognition at both the state and federal levels, commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved men and women in Galveston, Texas finally received news of their freedom, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863.

A word to the wise…make sure to check the weather forecast before you go out. You might want to take an umbrella just in case.
